Assistive Technology
Survey Follow Up Information
*****************************************
Victoria County CAP Sites
Association, along with their partners sponsored a survey to help implement
Assistive Technology (AT) services
throughout
they may experience while using a computer or the Internet.
VCCAPS is working with its partners to
provide learning opportunities for individuals interested in learning how to
use a web cam, a digital camera, read a book online
and explore new ways to communicate with
family & friends. We can also provide our partner information on services
and programs
for persons with disabilities interested in
employment opportunities, or how to access specialized services and
information.
We want to make it as easy as
possible for you to reach your goals and to learn how we can make a computer
& the Internet accessible for you.
Please use the information below to
help you decide what services best suit your needs.
Please refer to the CAP Site chart
to (1) contact your local CAP Site (2) find out what courses & training
they are offer and when
(3) Set up an appointment with staff
for an outreach visit if you find transportation an issue and/or you if you
find it difficult to leave your home
(4) have your questions answered.

Web
VoIP:
Voice over the Internet. If you
have a high-speed internet connection you can use this technology to
communicate with family & friends over the Internet. We use a free program that allows you to use
the computer, a headset with a microphone to speak-just as you would use a
telephone. Free computer to computer
calling.
Digital Camera: Many of us are now using a digital
camera to take photos. If you’re having trouble learning how to use yours -
come in to the CAP Site and we will help you figure it out. We can also show
you some programs to help you manage your photos for emailing and printing.
Assistive Technology Software:
We also have available software that can do many functions such as read
the information on the computer to you, make a book into an audio file so you
can listen to it. We can show you how to
adjust your computer so the text is larger or so your computer is easier to
see, hear and use.
Outreach Services: We realize that it’s not always
easy to get into a CAP Site due to transportation issues, or lack of accessibility into the
building. We also realize that not
everyone has access to a computer or the Internet. Through our outreach
services we may be able to assist you with these concerns.
Phone your local CAP Site to discuss
the outreach services you require.
Job Searching Skills Are you looking for a job and need a
place to start? Do you have a disability and need information for programs and
services that can get you into the workforce? Do you need some help in looking
up information or finding services? CAP Sites can help you get started and
provide you with this information.
