Barra Strait Mi'kmaq Friendship Day
Aug. 30, 2025 from Noon until 5pm
The Grand Narrows Waterfront Development Society (GNWDS) and the 7GI Society are partnering to create a landmark initiative centered on Mi’kmaq history and friendship along the Barra Strait. This project is designed to deepen community connections, promote cultural understanding, and celebrate the rich heritage of the Mi’kmaq people. With a targeted completion in 2025, this initiative includes interpretive signage, student engagement, and cultural events that honor the enduring friendship between Mi’kmaq and non-Indigenous communities.

Water Safety Awareness Day - July 19
The 5hr program (12-5pm) features the Canadian Coast Guard Auxiliary (CCGA)
.-Zone 8 Team. They will be performing on water practise exercises, and
providing information about the CCGA and recruiting information.
GNWDS will be reaching out to other Safety organizations in the area to join the
program. If you represent an organization and are interested in participating in
the days activities be sure to reach out to a GNWDS representative.
This is intended to be a educational and family fun event at the Grand Narrows
beach and waterfront.
Stay tuned for further details as the day program gets developed.
We are still accepting refundable recyclables here at the school. If you are dropping off Monday-Friday between the hours of 8 - 3 please leave them in the two small wooden boxes beside the shed at the top of the bus loop. If you are dropping off on weekends or after school hours, you can drive down to the garage and place the bags or boxes in the new shed beside the garage. Boisdale Volunteer Fire Department this upcoming summer.
We are looking for a student to aid in the maintenance and upgrade of our
facilities and surrounding areas as well as assisting our amazing volunteers
in day to day tasks and preparation for summer events.
You will be required to interact with people in the community and will have a
variety of tasks that will have you working both in and out of the building
sites.
Hours are flexible as long as you meet a weekly minimum of 35 hours and
you will be paid $15.70/hour. The position is for 8 weeks and will be
starting at the end of June/beginning of July depending on the availability of
the successful candidate.

ST BARRA PARISH- Canada Summer Jobs – 2025
St Barra Parish plans to hire two workers for 8 weeks this summer.
One will look after the mowing and trimming at the church and cemetery in Iona,
The second person will do the same in Christmas Island.
Applicants must be between 15 and 30 years of age and have some experience with the safe operation of mowing and trimming equipment. The positions run from July 2 to August 26, 35 hours a week at $15.70 per hour.
