WASHABUCK COMMUNITY CENTRE ASSOCIATION
Cell
phone number 622 – 7538
The annual meeting of
the Washabuck Community Centre Association was held on Wednesday, May 22,
2002 at the centre with twelve members present.
There has been no
positive response to our grant application. We are still hoping but it
doesn’t look good. Vince has made another grant application – this one to
ECBC. We are keeping our fingers crossed. If either of these does not come
through it was decided to go ahead and shingle the north side of the roof.
There were some bad leaks over the winter. We will buy the shingles and
hopefully, with community support, get the job done.
Since the last meeting
we had two fund raising events – a Christmas dance and a yard sale. Both
of these were very successful. Thanks to everybody for organizing,
donating to and supporting these activities.
It is hoped we can
sponsor swimming lesson again this year. If anyone has any leads on a
certified Red Cross instructor please contact Cheryl or Donna. Iona is
also looking for someone so that would be four weeks of work.
Coming events include
June 16 – Father’s Day barbeque
July 31 – Barramen’s Feast
barbeque
Aug. 1 – A talk by Tony MacKenzie
titled Celtic Funnybone
Aug. 2 – Annual Highland Village
dance _ Music by Seamus,
Kyle and friends
In regard to the
Father’s Day barbeque Gus will be contacting people about donations. On
Friday evening, June14, at 7:30 we will be setting up the hall and on
Saturday afternoon,June 15, we will meet to do the berries. Donations
would be appreciated to the Father’s Day basket which will be raffled off.
The barbeque will run from eleven to two and the cost will be ten dollars
for two chops and eight dollars for one. Gift certificates are available
by calling Cheryl. There will be more about the Barrama’s Feast activities
later.
Our cemetery fund is in
fine shape for this years needs. Carly has agreed to look after it again
this year. He does a great job and we have no worries when he is on the
job.
A piano tuner had a
look at the piano and said it needs some repairs. It was decided to put
this off until repairs are made to the building. Most musicians bring
their own keyboard.
Membership dues are now
being collected. They are five dollars a household and can be given to
Gerard.
